KOCHI:
In a joint drive conducted on
Sunday, the shadow police, Ernakulam Town North policeand the food
safety department seized over 300 kilograms of rotten chicken meat from a
stall in Kaloor market. Three employees of the shop have been arrested
in connection with the incident.
The accused
have been identified as Ravi M (45) of Thammanam, Shekhar T (24) of
Sivakasi and Ibrahim Moosa (25) of Thenkasi in Tamil Nadu. Police have
also launched a search to arrest Khalid of Karukapilly, who is the owner
of Bismillah Chicken and Fish Centre.
According to
the shadow police, the raid was conducted following a tip-off received
by city police commissioner K G James. They said the chicken remains
were allegedly collected from prominent restaurants and hotels in the
city and sold at Rs30 to Rs 60 per kg. Police have started investigation
to find out whether the rotten chicken meat was sold by mixing it with
fresh chicken meat. Investigation will also check whether rotten meat is
being supplied to restaurants and roadside eateries.
Ernakulam Town
North police have registered a case after the food safety department
certified that the chicken was rotten. The accused will be produced in
court on Monday.
