Four
men who manufactured chewing tobacco using various ingredients and sold it to
people including college
students
were arrested on Monday night, said police officers.
Over
Rs. 4 lakh worth of goods were seized from the suspects.
Police
sources said the suspects, Tiwari (40) and Sunil (28), both from Choolai, and
Parasuram (48) and Rochith (20), both from Mylapore, were producing the banned
tobacco items in a house on Nainiappan Street in Chintadripet.
Following
a tipoff, a police team raided the house and unearthed 25 kg of a tobacco
product locally known as mava and other ingredients.
The
four men were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday morning, the
sources added.
