CIPHET organises licensing, imparts ginger, garlic processing training

A licensing and hands-on training programme on ginger and garlic processing was organised at the Central Institute of Post-harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, recently.

During the programme, which was attended by various members of the Ginger Seed Development Cooperative Society, located in Nahan in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, various value-added products like dried flakes, osmo-sweetened flakes, powder and paste were prepared.

Ginger is one of the most lucrative crops in Himachal Pradesh, but due to the lack of processing knowledge, farmers are not able to get good remuneration. “With the help of such processing training, farmers can process the raw material into value-added products,” said Rakesh Thapa, block inspector, Ginger Cooperative Society.

“CIPHET is always ready to inculcate such training among farmers to reduce the post-harvest losses,” said Dr S N Jha, director, CIPHET, while giving licensing and training certificate to participants.

Dr D M Kadam, senior scientist and principal investigator, CIPHET’s business planning and development (BPD) unit, imparted this training.

“The BPD unit of CIPHET is always striving to help new entrepreneurs establish the food processing industries at catchment areas,” he said.
