Home chef competition 3rd-day highlight at Bakery Business’ 2013 essay

With Christmas round the corner, the 2013 essay of Bakery Business - the three-day event organised by Hospitality First and dedicated to baked and confectionery products - witnessed a footfall of 6,000-7,000 visitors. A highlight of the final day - November 22, 2013 - was the home chef competition, in which 45 home bakers. It was co-located with a workshop on artisanal baking by Fabien Berteau, executive pastry chef, Park Hyatt, Chennai.

Baki Packi Pvt Ltd, which represents the Italy-based Novacart, displayed a range of products. Aakansha Mahawar, the company’s executive, sales, said, “We manufacture eco-friendly and affordable paper moulds, and paper boxes for packing baked goods like cakes, pastries and cupcakes in various colours and shapes. As it is eco-friendly, we have received good response from the visitors.”

Masterline Bakery Service - a division of Bunge India - showcased Morning Star, a non-dairy fresh cream topping with a smooth texture, high volume, sharp piping qualities and a bright white finish, which can be used for cakes, pastries and other baked products. Morning Star will be soon launched in the market,” said Shailesh Bhadekar, sales officer, Masterline Bakery Services.

“There were around 150 exhibitors participated at the event from all over the country. This year the event has seen an increase in the number of visitors. Fifty per cent of the participants were from west India and the rest were from other parts of the country, including Coimbatore, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Ahmedabad,” Pradeep Gopalan, director, Hospitality First, said.

“Therefore, the event serves as the platform for small- and large-scale market players from the Indian bakery industry to learn about the new innovations and trends entering in the bakery sector, under one roof,” he added.
