Focus will be on tech suppliers, processed food buyers

India is the world's second largest producer of food next only to China but accounts for less than 1.5% of international food trade. With India having the strength in the primary food sector there is substantial potential the country to be a reliable outsourcing partner. With an intention to boost the outsourcing and food processing sectors in India, India Foodex 2013, an event dedicated to food products, processing and machinery including allied industries, is being organised at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bangalore, from August 23 to 25, 2013.

The focus will be on technology suppliers and processed food buyers from across the world are expected to participate. The countries that are likely to participate include Turkey, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, China, Taiwan, and Korea. Also buyers are expected from established as well as upcoming markets who would be interacting with the India food processing industry and agro-food exporters.

As per the feedback received from the organiser, the Media Today Group, the venue is not the same as earlier years, and it has been moved to an international standard venue - BIEC. One of the organisers, explained, “Though the venue is very costly compared to the previous one, it offers professional ambience, ample space for conferences, excellent amenities and good facilities.”

S Jafar Naqvi, director and chief coordinator, Media Today Group, stated, “India Foodex 2013 is a truly international event with an unprecedented foreign exhibitor response with over 50% of exhibitors being overseas organisation.” Delegations of professionals from Arabian nations, African nations and SAARC nations is testimony to the fact that India Foodex serves as a B2B sourcing venue for upcoming food processing industries in South Asia.

As per the latest statistics given by organisers, India ranks as the world's second-largest producer of food next to China. The total valuation of the Indian food processing industry is expected to reach $194 billion by 2015 from a value of $121 billion in 2012. The net export of processed food is expected to outreach the present value of $43 billion, but India’s share in international food trade at present is insignificant. The food processing sector employs 13 million people, while 35 million are indirectly employed. The Indian food brands are now rapidly finding prime shelf space in the retail chains across the US and Europe.

The event serves as a one-common-platform for the prominent sector from the food industry like canning, packaging, refrigeration for dairy, poultry, fisheries, meat, ready-to-eat products, cereals and grains, soft drinks consumer product groups like confectionery, chocolates, cocoa products, soya-based products, mineral water, high protein foods and nutraceuticals, apart from health food and health food supplements, a fast-rising segment of the food processing industry.

Theme for the show

The theme of India Foodex 2013 has been “Food Security Through Technology.” Though focus varies from grains to dairy to fruits and vegetables depending on developments at the ground level. This year, we are taking food security issues connected with dairy and grains, considering expected feed shortages for dairy, poultry and other livestock farming.

With each and every aspect of the food and beverage industry covered in the show, it will give a complete experience to the visitors, according to the organisers.

DairyTech India 2013

DairyTech India 2013, the event’s 3rd edition, is to be held along with India Foodex 2013. The exhibition intends to provide an opportunity for stakeholders of every segment of animal farming, dairy industry and allied activities who want to expand and / or diversify their business activities. Also this year, DairyTech has organised one of the biggest meets called South Asia's 3rd Feed Dairy & Livestock Industry Congress.

The Congress has been planned concurrently on August 24, 2013, jointly with CLFMA (the Compound Feed Manufacturers Association) of India to highlight the emergence of latest technological trends in different countries and its potential in Indian perspective. Prominent speakers from Germany, Holland, Turkey, Italy and India will address the issues for long-term development of the dairy industry. This conference will also provide a platform to trade visitors and officials coming from Asian, African and developed world to share their experiences, explore technology transfer and meet each other for joint venture opportunities.

grain Tech India 2013

In the year 2013, grain Tech India would be the 4th edition of the show being conducted consecutively over the years. The event is widely acknowledged as India's largest international exhibition on grains, cereals, spices, oil seeds, feeds, and products & technologies.

The exhibitors’ list includes agri plant manufacturers / exporters, food processing machinery, food distributor & stockist, banks & financial institutions, NGOs, co-operative organisations, quality certification agencies and so on. The visitors expected would include food processors, flour millers, rice millers, feed manufacturers, solvent extractors, coffee growers & processors, soya processors, importers & exporters, wholesalers, technology providers, mill operators, biscuits & bread manufacturers, purchase manager of supermarkets, snacks companies, oil millers, brand managers and related marketing professionals, warehouse owners, farmers and agri entrepreneurs.

International Poultry and Livestock Expo 2013

The 2nd Poultry & Livestock Expo 2013 is an international event, being held concurrently with DairyTech. It would bring under one roof leading poultry and livestock players of India, specially poultry and dairy equipment manufacturers, breeders, food products exporters, experts & leaders from the industry, of course, along with, farmers' delegations - in fact all stakeholders.

The exhibitors at this expo would include poultry equipment manufacturers, traders,
livestock feed manufacturers, veterinary products & services providers, dairy technology manufacturers and exporters, animal biotechnology, biosecurity, animal nutrition, health products, poultry turnkey projects suppliers, poultry incubators manufacturers, and dairy farming equipment makers.


Agri Tech India 2013

Agriculture is undoubtedly the largest livelihood provider in rural India. As we enter a new post-WTO scenario and IT revolution, new inventions are happening day by day in every sphere. In recent years, much emphasis has been given by the ministry of agriculture on commercialising agricultural production in the country. Adequate production and distribution of food has become a high priority and global concern. Keeping this scenario in mind, the exhibition Agri Tech India intends to pump in more value additions to the existing technology from all over the world. The exhibition will, therefore, be an eye-opener for growers, wholesalers, importers, exporters and other stakeholders of every segment of agriculture and farm machinery, equipment and allied sectors who want to expand and diversify their activities.

Exhibitors

For the current year, there is an increase of almost 50% in number of exhibitors. So far, there are 315 stalls, which will show products and services from over 1,500 national and international companies from 23 nations. About 160 stalls will be occupied by exhibitors from other countries.

Particularly a large number of Indian companies, representing 5-10 foreign organisations are participating. These participants will be occupying the 15,000 sq m venue with some open to sky area outside the air-conditioned halls.

Visitors

Personal invitations have been sent to over 60,0000 food processing professionals including exporters, members of CLFMA, AIFPA, APEDA, Spice Board, Tea Board, Coffee Board, Coconut Development Board, and beneficiaries of MoFPI, and members of MPEDA.

Apart from these, the show has support of and media partnership with over 30 professional print and online partners. “With professional media partners like Saffron Media, we are sure, we have a reach to every single person having an interest in the South Asian agro & food processing sector. For the year 2013 over 28,000 visitors are expected,” stated one of the organisers. The organiser firmly believes that there would be a jump of 40% in domestic visitors and 200% in international representatives.

An organiser stated, “We have developed India Foodex as a B2B platform for upcoming food processing organisations in such a way that they can see products from existing food processing sector players, see technology options available from low-cost suppliers for small units as also highest grade suppliers from global markets.”

Pavilion

Though there ought to be many pavilions a special mention is needed for the one by the Netherlands as it will be displaying a truly farm-to-fork concept, starting from seeds, planting material, cultivation technology, harvesting techniques, post-harvest technology, grading & sorting solutions and processing & packaging solutions, through over 25 companies.

Also the Turkish pavilion is a must-visit place for every single Indian food processing professional and those who plan to start agro-food processing industry or export/import trade, according to an organiser.

Seminars and conferences

With the intention of updating the visitors and exhibitors with the latest innovation and technology around the world, there will be a seminar on farm-to-fork, cold chain for sustainable food supplies, which will be supported by the National Centre for Cold Chain Development and ministry of agriculture.

The second interactive session specially for grains and milling industry will have Roller Flour Millers Federation and members of different states rice millers associations will be face-to-face with grain milling technology suppliers from over 20 countries.

A seminar on "South Asian Feed Dairy & Livestock Industry Congress" would be inaugurated on August 24, by Tariq Anwar, minister of state for agriculture & food processing. The keynote speaker will be Dr A K Shrivastava, director, NDRI.
